    BENEFITING FROM CRUISE TOURISM

     

    Scope and objectives

    The immediate training objective is to improve the basic knowledge and understanding of the Caribbean and Latin American Cruise destinations about:

      • The working of the cruise industry and the Caribbean and Latin American cruise market
      • Safety & security issues
      • Destination promotion and development
      • The impact and future of cruise tourism in the Caribbean and Latin American Region

    Target audience

    This course is intended for management, staff and front-line employees of organizations involved with the planning and handling of cruise tourism, including:

      • Government agencies
      • Port authorities and cruise terminal operators
      • Cruise shipping agents and cruise travel agents
      • Tourist boards/promotion agencies
      • Tour and transportation suppliers
      • Merchants and merchant organizations
      • Tourist attractions and destinations
      • All those catering to the cruise ships and/or the cruise visitors

    Participation requirements

    The course is open to all levels, from front office staff with basic education to middle and higher management personnel with higher education. The only requirement is that participants can read and write proper English and have a professional interest in cruise tourism. Because of the interactive nature of the course, participation is limited to maximum 50 persons.

    Basic course outline/training method

    This is a two-day introduction course, consisting of lectures about the cruise industry and the Caribbean and Latin American cruise market:

    1. Introduction to the cruise industry
    2. The Caribbean and Latin American cruise market
    3. Basic safety & security issues
    4. Itinerary planning and development
    5. Tailoring your products and services to the need of the cruise industry

    Course delivery

    The training will be classroom style and will be delivered by qualified lecturers with relevant experience in the field.

    At the end of the first day, group cases will be presented and participants will be divided into groups to prepare and present the cruise case of their choice. The second day is dedicated to the presentation and discussion of these group cases, which are designed to encourage interactive sharing of knowledge and experience between presenters, groups and individuals.

    All course materials will be made available to participants at the start of the course. Upon completion of the course, participants will receive an official CSA approved certificate, which includes accreditation points for selected programs offered by the Caribbean Maritime Institute (CMI) in Jamaica.

    Varies and is dependent on agreement reached between host and CSA.
