    AGENCY MANAGEMENT & STRATEGIC POSITIONING

    Overview

The developments over the last three decades of new logistic concepts such as globalization, outsourcing and just in time (JIT) have created the need for the establishment of complex international distribution chains. This has resulted in global logistic service providers whose ultimate goal is to allow shippers to place the right product on the manufacturing or retail floor anywhere in the world at the right time and at the right price. Their priority objectives emphasize the paramount need of satisfying customer-driven demand. To achieve this objective, they frequently rely on partnerships with industrial, distribution and transport entities. This transformation has reduced the role of shipping lines to becoming a single node on the global logistic chain and consequently impacting the traditional ship agent. This begs the question: How does the traditional ship agent find relevance in a global logistic chain which is no longer driven by shipping lines and one in which in excess of 60% of global cargo volumes are controlled by Non Vessel Owning Common Carrier (NVOCC)?

    Scope and Objectives

This course seeks to reposition the traditional ship agent and NVOCC operators within the new global logistic chain as a value added solution partner and to provide participants with the necessary agency management tools that are critical for success. The objective of this two-day course (12 hours) is to sharpen ship/NVOCC agents with the relevant skills associated with this rapidly changing and complex profession including:

    • The Ship/NVOCC Agent and e-Commerce
    • The two (2) fundamental forces driving the global shipping industry – Scale and technology
