    APPROACH: Through Basseterre Bay - Landmark: Fort Thomas Headland.

    HAZARDS: None.

    TRANSPORTATION: The main berth at the Deep Water Port has a rail link which is used only by the sugar industry. Hinterland transportation is by road and cabotage. Robert Llewellyn Bradshaw International Airport is 2.8 km from the sea port.

    IMPORTS AND EXPORTS: Imports: Foodstuffs, household goods, petroleum, cement and building materials - Exports: Sugar, molasses, non-alcoholic drinks, concrete blocks.

    WEATHER: Winds are generally north easterly/easterly at 8-20 knots - Tidal range is negligible (0.45 meters).

    ANCHORAGE: Anchorage points at 17° 17' 02" N, 62° 43' 35 W in 14 meters - 17° 17' 20' N, 62° 43' 45" W in 10.7 meters - and 17° 17' 43" N, 62° 42' 78" W in 3.0 meters.

    PILOTAGE: Pilot boards one mile from the relevant berth. Pilotage charges are calculated on the basis of grt.

    STORAGE: Open storage: 1.2 hectares - Covered storage: Shed 1 has 446.52 square meters and Shed 2 has 298.29 square meters.

    Air draft: No restrictions - Refrigeration capacity: 17 units.

    BUNKERS: Supplied by tank barge and road tanker.

    WATER: Fresh water is available at all berths and readily available (except in times of drought) in volumes up to 400 tonnes at a cost of US$1 per tonne.

    FACILITIES: Largest vessel: 20,000 dwt (cargoships); 7,000 dwt (cruise ships). Maximum draft alongside: 8.18 meters - Longest vessel: 270 meters LOA.

    Cruise: The cruise terminal has two outer berths, each of which can each accommodate a large cruise ship, and an inner berth which can accommodate two small cruise ships. There is also a cruise terminal building.

    Breakbulk: One berth available to accommodate one large cargo vessel or two small vessels. Transit sheds available.

    Container: One berth available to accommodate one large containership or two small ones. Ro-ro: One high ramp and one low ramp, both 13.64 meters wide.

    PRIVATE WHARFS:

    Factory Pier, 90.9 meters long with 2.40 meters depth, offers one berth.

    Coast Guard Pier, 68 meters long with 3.60 meters depth, offers one berth.

    MEDICAL AID: Joseph Nathaniel France General Hospital is 3.5 km from port.

    ENVIRONMENT: Not notified.
