    WORKING HOURS: Mon-Sat: 06.30-13.00/14.30-21.30/22.00-04.00

    APPROACH: Port is located in a small cul-de-sac. The main approach, marked by Buoy PP, is five miles long and 170 meters wide with a depth of 11 meters.

    HAZARDS: A five mile long buoyed and lighted channel leads between off-lying shoals. The upper end, from the entrance channel limit at Cochons Island to the wharves, is dredged to 11 meters.

    TRANSPORTATION: Hinterland transportation is mainly by cabotage and road. Le Raizet Airport is 5 km from the sea port.

    IMPORTS AND EXPORTS: Imports: Containerised cargo (about 1 million tonnes), bulks (about 1 million tonnes) and liquid bulks (about 650,000 tonnes)

    Exports: Containerised bananas (less than 100,000 tonnes) and bulk sugar exports (50,000 tonnes).

    WEATHER: Prevailing east winds, The Alizes, with an average speed of 15 kph. Hurricane season from Jul to Nov - Tidal variation is between 0.4 and 0.7 metres Water density is 1.024 all year round.

    ANCHORAGE: There are several outer anchorages, but masters are recommended to employ a pilot before using any of them.

    PILOTAGE: Compulsory. Pilot is available day and night. ETA and ETD of vessel must be notified to agent 72, 48 and 24 hours in advance. Harbour master's office, then pilot, should be contracted by VHF one hour before arrival. Pilotage is charged according to size of vessel (volume in cubic meters).

    STORAGE: Open storage: About 30 hectares - Covered storage: Around 23,500 square meters.

    Pointe-Pitre area: Shipowners: 1,900 square meters - Stevedore: 500 square meters. Customs: 500 square meters - Army: 500 square meters - Other: 5,000 square meters.

    Jarry area: GMG (stevedore): 2,000 square meters - SGCM (stevedore): 2,400 square meters - Other warehouses: 1,500 square meters - Free zone: 25,000 square meters.

    Ore and bulk cargo facilities: Three berths

    Refrigeration capacity: 60 reefer plugs. Two pre-refrigerated stations for storing up to 120 teu of bananas (CGM private use).

    BUNKERS: Delivered by 400 tonne capacity tank barge.

    PROVISIONS: Marine supplies available through agent from ship chandlers.

    WATER: Fresh water available 24 hours from port authority - No volume or availability limit - Cost: FF12.68 per tonne (07.00-19.00 hours) and FF19.05 per tonne at night.

    FACILITIES: Berthing: 600 meters - Maximum draft alongside: 11 meters.

    NEW FACILITIES: Jarry: Filling in and installation of essential services is continuing on Quay 12 and in the international trade zone - Pointe-a-Pitre: A master plan for development of the coastal area from the Darse to Bergevin is under study. This plan foresees a program of works as well as a reorganization of quays used for cruise ships and inter-island services.

    MEDICAL AID: University Hospital of Pointe-a-Pitre.

    ENVIRONMENT: Hazardous cargo: Specific goods declaration must be made to harbour master. Ports come within a French Overseas Department and must comply with French as well as international regulations. Waste reception: Waste compactor available together with tanks of 5 cubic meters capacity. Garbage is collected/disposed of by truck. Waste oil disposal facility available.
