    TRANSPORTATION: Inland transportation is by truck only. La Uni-n International Airport, about 20 km from the sea port, has daily flights to San Juan and New York.

    Imports: General and bulk cargoes - Exports: Tobacco, agricultural commodities.

    WEATHER: Winds are a problem only during the hurricane season.

    ANCHORAGE: Deepwater anchorage outside port. Pilot will advise best location.

    PILOTAGE: Pilot contacted on VHF Channel 16. Pilot boards half a mile from the sea buoy.

    TOWAGE: Compulsory for vessels over 500 grt. An 800 hp tug is at Puerto Plata.

    BUNKERS: Available by truck.

    WATER: Available by pipeline at a rate of 10 tonnes/hour.

    FACILITIES: Maximum draft alongside: 29 feet - Longest vessel: 215 meters LOA.
