    APPROACH: Via the Romana River.

    HAZARDS: None notified. Daylight navigation only.

    TRANSPORTATION: Transport to and from the port is by truck. La Romana has a small airport with flights to San Juan, Puerto Rico. Las Americas International Airport is about 70 km from the sea port.

    IMPORTS AND EXPORTS: Imports: Fuel, lumber, steel, general cargo.

    Exports: Sugar, molasses, furfural, containers.

    WEATHER: Minimal tides.

    ANCHORAGE: West of Catalina Island. There is no protected anchorage immediately outside the port.

    PILOTAGE: Pilot boards vessel from white launch marked 'LP-24' about 1.5 miles from port entrance NE of Catalina Island. Charges are calculated on the basis of grt.

    TOWAGE: Compulsory. One tug of 1,115 hp available.

    WATER: Available from pipeline alongside at a rate of 8 to 10 tonnes per hour.

    FACILITIES: Berthing: Main pier is 220 meters long with 28 feet depth alongside.

    Maximum draft alongside: 26 feet on arrival and 28 feet on sailing.
