    Working Hours: 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.

    APPROACH: Santa Marta Bay (Bah'a de Santa Marta).

    Useful landmark: Morro Grande Island.

    HAZARDS: None except strong winds.

    TRANSPORTATION: Inland and onward transportation is by road, rail and cabotage.

    Simon Bol'var Airport is 15 km from the sea port.

    IMPORTS AND EXPORTS: Imports: Grain, paper, vehicles, general cargo, heavy equipment, steel, pipes. - Exports: Coal, bananas, coffee.

    WEATHER: NNE winds of 10 knots. - Tidal range is 32 cm (about 1 foot).

    ANCHORAGE: Available in the following locations:

    74° 13' 3" W, 11° 14' 7" N - 74° 14' W, 11° 14' 7" N.

    74° 13' 5" W, 11° 14' 3" N - 74° 14' W, 11° 13' 8" N.

    PILOTAGE: Compulsory. Pilot boards at the pilot station 1 nautical mile from the sea buoy. Vessels should call Channel 11 to Santa Marta pilots 7 nautical miles before arrival at the pilot station and prepare ladder 1 meter above the water.

    Pilotage charges are calculated by LOA.

    STORAGE: Open storage: 41,509 square meters.

    Covered storage: 7,200 square meter warehouse for imports and 7,560 square meter warehouse for exports.

    Ore and bulk cargo: Suction equipment and 20 silos offering 30,000 tonnes of storage with direct loading into truck and rail cars. Additional 12,500 tonnes of storage in three more silos at No 3 yard. Equipped with portable conveyors.

    Air draft: No restrictions.

    BUNKERS: Supplied by road tanker.

    PROVISIONS: Ship suppliers available.

    WATER: Fresh water is available at each berth with no restrictions on volume or availability. Price: US$5 per tonne.

    FACILITIES: Maximum berthing capacity: Eight vessels.

    Largest vessel: 50,000 dwt - Maximum draft alongside: 19.5 meters.

    Longest vessel: 290 meters LOA.

    Cruise: Pier No 2 is available for cruise ships. There are two terminals.

    Breakbulk: Handled at all berths.

    Container: Full range of landside equipment. Two mobile cranes.

    Ro-ro: Two ro-ro berths.

    Tankers: Jackson Point Terminal, half a mile south of harbour.

    Bulk: Three berths.

    NEW FACILITIES: Additional rail and road connections, new automated scales, power packs for 20 ft, 30 ft and 60 ft refrigerated containers.

    MEDICAL AID: Clinica del Prado is 3 km from the port.

    ENVIRONMENT: IMO regulations and ISO 1400 standards have been implemented.
