    Bermuda Shipping Association

Improvements: The association was formed in November 1969 to meet the needs of Bermuda's shipping industry. Prior to this date, the Steam Ship Agents' Association, a division of the Bermuda Chamber of Commerce, had been the representative body.

Since its formation, the association has advised in many areas of the industry in Bermuda, which has resulted in improvements in ship turnaround times, cargo delivery systems, standardization of documentation and port development.

Participation: The association has been actively involved in, and is a charter member of, the Caribbean Shipping Association. In addition to regular participation at all meetings, members of the Bermuda Shipping Association have served in various capacities of the larger body, including that of president from 1978-1981.

Over the years since its formation the association has been involved in deliberations on such matters as pilotage, berthing, port modernisation and changes, industrial relations and cruise ship policy. The present members of the association continue to monitor the industry and to institute changes to reflect prevailing conditions.
