APPROACH: The entrance channel is half a mile long and 500 feet wide with depth of 47 feet. Landmarks: Borco Towers and offshore platforms.

HAZARDS: Shallow water outside channel. Offshore platform.

TRANSPORTATION: Inland transportation is by road and cabotage.

Freeport International Airport is five miles from the sea port.

IMPORTS AND EXPORTS: Imports: Agricultural products and building supplies.

Exports: Seafood, aggregates and agricultural products.

WEATHER: SE winds of 10-12 knots. Hurricane season. - Offshore tidal range 3 feet.

ANCHORAGE: Approx 2,500 feet to the NW from the entrance channel for a distance of 1.5 miles. Depths of 14.6 to 18.3 meters available.

PILOTAGE: Pilot boards at 26° 30' N, 78° 48' W (approx). Pilot should be ordered through Harbour Control on VHF Channels 16/14 one hour before estimated time of arrival and departure - Pilotage charges are calculated according to draft and grt.

TOWAGE: Available through agents or Harbour control.

STORAGE: Covered storage: Seven warehouses totalling 37,847 square meters. Refrigeration: Plugs for reefer containers.

BUNKERS: Supplied by tank barge and road tanker.

PROVISIONS: Available through agencies.

WATER: All berths have water available. Volume is limited. Cost US$1 per gallon.

FACILITIES: Berthing capacity: 893 meters.

Maximum draft alongside: 9 meters - Longest vessel: 360 meters.

Cruise ships: Terminal available - Breakbulk: Quayside/landside areas available. Extensive covered storage for container, ro-ro and breakbulk cargo - Containers: Two berths with 548 meters, seven container cranes, 22 straddle carriers, 23 hectares. Annual capacity of 950,000 teu - Ro-ro: Fixed ramps for inter-island ro-ro vessels.

Cruise ships: Four berths available for cruise ships along with terminal facilities.

NEW FACILITIES: Phase 2 of the container port completed October 1999 with three berths and seven container carriages. Cruise harbour redevelopment will be completed in 2000.

MEDICAL AID: Rand Memorial Hospital is eight miles from the port.

ENVIRONMENT: Marpol regulations have been implemented. Slop reception and garbage disposal services are provided.
