  • 2007

2007, October 18: Kingston Wharves in Jamaica and SPRC, the container terminal in Cartagena, Colombia have been named the most outstanding seaport operations in the Caribbean.

The two winners of the Caribbean Shipping Association’s (CSA) annual Caribbean Port Awards competition were announced in the Dominican Republic on Wednesday at the 37th annual banquet of the Association. The gala banquet brought the curtains down on the CSA’s 37th Annual General Mereting, Conference and Exhibition, held at the Renaissance Jaragua Hotel in Santo Domingo, October 15, 16 and 17.

Kingston Wharves copped the trophy for the Best Multi-Purpose Terminal in the Caribbean, while SPRC Cartagena was named the Best Container Terminal. Cartagena was winning the award for the third consecutive year while Kingston Wharves was winning it for the second consecutive year.

Garth Kitson, General Manager - Operations at Kingston Wharves and Giovanni Benedetti, Director of Marketing at SPRC, received the tophies on behalf of their Terminals.

The CSA Port Awards competition measures efficiency and dependability of the Region’s seaport terminals. Size of the terminal and its facilities are not a factor in this competition so therefore even small ports can win.

The 2007 competition marked the 20th year of this competition. The Port of St. Johns, Antigua, was the first port to win this Regional event in 1987.
