Bridgetown, Cartagena win Caribbean Port Awards

2005, OCTOBER 19: The Port of Bridgetown, Barbados and the Port of Cartagena – SPRC, Colombia have won the top awards in the 2005 Caribbean Shipping Association’s ‘Caribbean Ports of the Year’ competition.

The announcements and presentations were made on October 18 at the Association’s (CSA) 35th Annual Gala Banquet held at the Hilton Barbados Hotel.

The CSA’s annual port awards promote development, operational efficiency, dependability and growth. All sea ports of CSA member countries across the Caribbean area are eligible to enter and most countries of the Caribbean and Latin America have membership in the CSA.

The Port of Bridgetown won in the category “Best Multi-Purpose Port” and was winning this award for the second consecutive year. The Port of Cartagena, judged the “Best Container Terminal” was winning the award for the first time.  The awards are based on operational performance for the calendar year 2004.

Representatives of winning ports, Cartagena (right) and Barbados (left) receive 2005 Port Of The Year Awards.  The trophies were presented by the CSA President, Mrs. Corah-Ann Robertson-Sylvester.

Commenting on Bridgetown’s performance, the Chief Executive Officer of Barbados Port Incorporated, Everton Walters said he was not surprised as the Barbados port had had a very good year and had performed better operationally and financially than in any other year on record.
