Caribbean Shipping Association
elects its 15th President
2009,
October 12, Paramaribo, SURINAME: The
Caribbean Shipping Association (CSA) elected a new President. Carlos Urriola-Tam
of Panama became the 15th President of the CSA at its 39th Annual General
Meeting in Paramaribo, Suriname.
Mr.
Urriola, the Association’s Vice President for the past three years, replaces
Fernando Rivera of Puerto Rico.
The new Vice President of the CSA is Grantley
Stephenson of Jamaica. Mr Stephenson is a Past President of the Shipping
Association of Jamaica and is Chairman of Kingston Wharves Ltd.
The
new CSA President is General Manager of Manzanillo International Terminal (MIT)
where he started in 1995. He graduated from Instituto Tecnologico y de Estudios
Superiores de Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, MŽxico in 1978, with a degree in Industrial
and Systems Engineering. A 30 year veteran of the shipping industry, Mr. Urriola
held a number of positions in the National Port Authority of Panama from 1979 to
1993, including Operations Director, Executive Planning Director and Special
Projects Director.
From 1993 to 1995, he worked as a private
consultant in port projects and was involved in the Manzanillo International
Terminal project from the early stages. Mr. Urriola was promoted in 1996 to Vice
President of Marketing and carried responsibility for all customer relations for
MIT’s daily operations. In September of 2003 he was promoted to General Manager
of MIT Panama.
Mr Urriola also is Senior VP for Marketing and
Projects Developments for SSA Marine. He was: President of the Maritime Chamber
of Panama for the period 2001-2003; President of American Chamber of Commerce of
Panama in 2006-2007; and, President of Junior Achievement for the period
2006-2007.
