  • The French territory of Guadeloupe has taken another step to protect its environment and shipping played a major part

Shipping industry pivotal in environment protection initiatives

2009, June 12: The French territory of Guadeloupe has taken another step to protect its environment and shipping played a major part.

On May 29th, the CMA-CGM ro-ro vessel Cap Canille discharged a Duratech Model 3010 FL machine crusher at the port of Jarry. The machine crusher was brought into the Caribbean from West Palm Beach by Tropical Shipping and discharged at St. Maarten. It was then taken from the Netherlands Antilles port to Jarry by CMA-CGM.

The machine was consigned to the private company, Garnier Group and will be operated in Guadeloupe but later it will be shipped to St. Martin to do work there.

“This machine, the first to be shipped to the Caribbean by Duratech, places Guadeloupe on top of environmental programmes in the Caribbean. It will serve for crushing garbage, wood and other items,” said former CSA General Council member, Gerard Petrelluzzi, of SGCM in Guadeloupe.

SGCM, a shipping company in Guadeloupe, conducted the operations of transport from the factory to Guadeloupe, in co-operation with Freight Forwarder Setcargo, represented by Patrick Elice; and Thierry de Beaupré representing  the owner of the machine , the Garnier Group.

"Mr. Garnier advised me he will have new orders same types for other Caribbean islands," Mr. Petrelluzzi said.

The machine will be commissioned at the end of June 2009.
