January 9: The Caribbean Shipping Association has invited suitably qualified
Caribbean nationals interested in pursuing a degree in the shipping industry to
apply for the CSA-Monica Silvera Scholarship.
The CSA-Monical Silvera Scholarship, tenable at
the Caribbean Maritime Institute, covers tuition costs for four years for any
selected Bachelor of Science degree programme offered by the Institute.
The chosen candidate is expected to begin the degree programme in September 2009.
The scholarship winner will be announced at the
CSA's annual Caribbean Shipping Executives Conference (CSEC) to be held this
year in Cartagena, Colombia, May 18, 19 and 20.
Created
in memory of the late Monica Silvera, the first female Executive Vice President
of the Caribbean Shipping Association (CSA), the scholarship is open to persons
residing in countries where there is CSA membership, which includes more than 20
states and territories in the Region. CSA membership reaches across public
and private sectors and the four major language groups in the Caribbean Region.
Geographically, the CSA's sphere
of influence includes all the countries with a Caribbean coastline, northern South America, Central America and
ports and terminals in the southern United States, including Florida and
Louisiana.
The CSA-Monica Silvera Scholarship will facilitate persons
interested in pursuing higher education in the shipping, logistics and supply
chain management sectors. Candidates will be expected to satisfy the
matriculation requirements and academic standards established by the Caribbean
Maritime Institute.

Completed applications with supporting documents
should be postmarked no later than February 20, 2009 and should be mailed directly to the
Caribbean Maritime Institute in Kingston, Jamaica.
