2009, January 9: The Caribbean Shipping Association has invited suitably qualified Caribbean nationals interested in pursuing a degree in the shipping industry to apply for the CSA-Monica Silvera Scholarship.

The CSA-Monical Silvera Scholarship, tenable at the Caribbean Maritime Institute, covers tuition costs for four years for any selected Bachelor of Science degree programme offered by the Institute.  The chosen candidate is expected to begin the degree programme in September 2009.

The scholarship winner will be announced at the CSA's annual Caribbean Shipping Executives Conference (CSEC) to be held this year in Cartagena, Colombia, May 18, 19 and 20.

Created in memory of the late Monica Silvera, the first female Executive Vice President of the Caribbean Shipping Association (CSA), the scholarship is open to persons residing in countries where there is CSA membership, which includes more than 20 states and territories in the Region.  CSA membership reaches across public and private sectors and the four major language groups in the Caribbean Region.  Geographically, the CSA's sphere of influence includes all the countries with a Caribbean coastline, northern South America, Central America and ports and terminals in the southern United States, including Florida and Louisiana.

The CSA-Monica Silvera Scholarship  will facilitate persons interested in pursuing higher education in the shipping, logistics and supply chain management sectors.  Candidates will be expected to satisfy the matriculation requirements and academic standards established by the Caribbean Maritime Institute.

Interested persons may obtain detailed information on entry requirements elsewhere on this website.

Completed applications with supporting documents should be postmarked no later than February 20, 2009 and should be mailed directly to the Caribbean Maritime Institute in Kingston, Jamaica.  (Click here for more information.).
