    CSA names its top ports...

2008, October 16, POS, Trinidad and Tobago: Guadeloupe and Kingston Container Terminal emerged top ports in the CSA's annual Caribbean Ports Awards.

The winners were announced on October 15 at the Association's annual banquet held in Port of Spain at the end of the 38th Annual General Meeting, Conference and Exhibition.  Over 250 delegates registered for the event, held at the Hyatt Regency Trinidad hotel, October 13, 14 and 15.

    FIRST TIME FOR GUADELOUPE ...

This was the first time that Guadeloupe has taken the top prize in the annual competition.

A long standing member of the Caribbean Shipping Association, Guadeloupe has sustained steady development in its port and maritime sector over the years.

    SECOND TIME FOR KINGSTON ...

On the other hand, this was the second time that for the Kingston Container Terminal.

When the results were tallied in 2008 in Port of Spain, Kingston was adjudged, for the second time in five years, the top container terminal in the competition.  Kingston Container Terminal previously won the Best Container Terminal in 2003. The CSA's annual port of the year competition was established to encourage and promote port development and efficient port operations. It recognizes those ports that have sustained a high level of efficiency while maintaining effective programmes for development of human resources and systems.

The competition looks at a port's overall efficiency and dependability and on measures implemented to achieve higher levels of productivity, growth and development.
