Association and Inter-American Committee on Ports to cooperate

October 14, POS, Trinidad and Tobago: The Caribbean Shipping Association
(CSA) has entered into a Cooperation Agreement with the Organization of
American States Inter-American Committee on Ports (OAS-CIP). The documents
bringing the two organizations together were signed today in Port of Spain, at
the 38th Annual General Meeting, Conference and Exhibition of the CSA.
The
documents were signed by CSA President, Fernando Rivera and the Executive
Secretary of the OAS-CIP, Carlos Gallegos at the Hyatt Regency Trinidad hotel
where the CSA’s conference is being held. The signing was witnessed by the
delegates attending the conference.
The Cooperation Agreement has as its main
features:
* coordination of efforts on issues of common
interest such as maritime trade, port security, port administration; port
investments and the application of agreements
* establishment of cooperative working
relationships between technical committees with common interests
* hemispheric studies investigations and surveys
that can assist ports in both organizations; and,
* collaboration in mutual conferences, seminars,
training, technical committees to promote wider understanding and adoption of
shared principles
Both
organizations will coordinate their schedules of events to encourage the maximum
participation of the members (of the two organizations). Both will also be
exploring opportunities for joint programming and joint action in a number of
areas including training and human resource development.
The Memorandum also encourages both organizations
to announce and promote the events of each other and to link their respective
websites.
In remarks at the end of the signing ceremony,
CSA President Fernando noted that this agreement provided the basis for both
organizations to immediately start working together in the area of training.
PRESENTATION: Mr.
Gallegos (left), who also made a brief address at the end of the signing
ceremony, welcomed the new link of cooperation between both organizations and
expressed optimism about the benefits to be gained. To mark the occasion, he
presented as a goodwill gift to the CSA a flag of the OAS, which was
received by CSA President Fernando Rivera (centre) and CSA Vice
President, Carlos Urriola.
