  • The Puerto Rico Shipping Association has a new President in Hernán Ayala Rubio

2007, October 11: The Puerto Rico Shipping Association has a new President in Hernán Ayala Rubio.

He was elected on October 4, 2007 at the Association’s Annual General Meeting in Puerto Rico.

The new Board of Directors elected on October 4th is as follow: Hernán F. Ayala Rubio, Vice President of Operations for Luis A. Ayala Colón Scrs., Inc.; José F. Nazario, Finance Director of Crowley Maritime, Vice President; Joseph Vázquez, General Manager of APL Puerto Rico, Treasurer; Herbert Ríos, Port Director - PR of Trailer Bridge, Inc., Secretary; José O. Busto, President of Continental Shipping, Past President and Fernando L. Rivera, Vice President of Harbor Bunkering Corporation, Executive Director.

Inspired by the formation of the Caribbean Shipping Association, the PRSA was founded in 1970 by Puerto Rico's shipping companies to address, principally, trade union contracts negotiations.  Since then it has evolved into the leading group attending all matters affecting the country's shipping industry.

According to the new President: “While our mission is to study and solve all the common problems affecting our members, our Board will also work towards increasing the participation of our members within our own organization and in the different associations in which we are members. It is our role as representatives of one of the most important industries for Puerto Rico to work together with the Puerto Rico Manufacturers Association, the Chamber of Commerce, Caribbean Shipping Association and the Coalition for Puerto Rico to improve the economic and social conditions of our precious island.”

The Association represents the following companies: American Presidents Line, Autoridad De Los Puertos De Puerto Rico, Aqua Clean Ships Caribe, Inc, Caribbean Petroleum Corp., Bloques Carmelo, Chevron Phillips P.R. Core, Comisión Del Puerto De Mayaguez, Continental Shipping, Crowley Liner Services, Cruise Plus Services, Demaco, Corp., Florida Caribbean Cruise Association, Harbor Bunkering Corporation, Horizon Lines Of Puerto Rico, Hoegh Autoliners AS, Inchcape Shipping Services, Island Stevedoring, Inc., Luis Ayala Colon Sucrs., Inc., Marine Express, Inc., Mcallister Towing & Transportation Inc, National Response Corporations Inc., Norton Lilly International, Perez & CIA, Oceanic General Agency, Puerto de Ponce, Puerto Rico Towing & Barge Co., Puerto Rico Operations, San Antonio Maritime, Corp., San Juan Towing & Marine Services, Sea Star Line Agency, Inc., Shell Chemicals Yabucoa, Inc., South P.R.
