2007, August 1: The 37th Annual General Meeting, Conference and Exhibition of the Caribbean Shipping Association will be held in the place where Europeans first settled in the Western Hemisphere, Santo Domingo.

The beautiful capital of the Dominican Republic will welcome over 250 delegates representing the shipping industry of the entire Caribbean region, for a conference expected to be one of the biggest CSA conference in recent years. The conference will be held from October 15 to 17. Delegates will have accommodation options as they will be housed in two neighbouring hotels – the Renaissance Jaragua and the Melia Santo Domingo. The two properties are inter-connected with a free and easy pedestrian flow. Conference activities, including the Exhibition, plenary and Group meetings will be held at the Jaragua.

A range of important topics and issues will be presented and discussed at the CSA conference in Santo Domingo including an update on the CARICOM Single Market and Economy. Delegates will also be looking at Current Trends in maritime transport and the implications for Latin America and the Caribbean; Ship Size and the effects on shipping in the Caribbean; and, Environmental issues critical for maintaining the pristine condition of the Caribbean Sea.

The Conference will be highlighted by a number of events and activities, including the election of President and Vice President for the ensuing year.

The CSA’s annual business exposition in the Shipping Insight series is presented as an integral part of event and each year allows a limited number of companies an opportunity to present to delegates products and services they will be offering to the industry in the coming year. Shipping Insight 2008, to be officially opened in the evening of Sunday October 14 will be able to accommodate 12 companies. Bookings for display space in this event should be forwarded to the CSA Secretariat as soon as possible as applications are treated on a first come, first served basis.

Two of the Caribbean’s most efficient and dependable port operations will be named Caribbean Multi-purpose Terminal of the Year and Caribbean Container Terminal of the Year. The presentation of trophies to the winning ports will be made at the Banquet.
