2007, February 26: Seven companies, local and
foreign, have reportedly submitted proposals for redeveloping the port area in
the Dominican Republic’s north coast city of Puerto Plata.
This
report in the local media identifies the Puerto Plata Tourist and Commercial
Port Complex Development Commission as the source of this information.
The deadline for presenting bids for the project
was Saturday, 12 February, 2007.
The invitation for tenders was publicized in the
national and international media. The commission studying the bids, the report
states, includes Aguie Lendor, legal representative of the Center for Export and
Investment (CEI-RD), Iris Pérez, Tourist Ministry technical sub-minister, Manuel
Crisanti, representing the Dominican Ports Authority, Francis Vargas (senator
for Puerto Plata province) and Cesar de los Santos, the governor for Puerto
Plata province.
The commission was set up by the government to
promote development and improve competitiveness for Puerto Plata province.
