Sir Albert Miller returned as CEO

2006, July 6: The Grand Bahama Port Authority (GBPA) has terminated the services of one of its senior executives, thus bringing to three the number of top staff that have departed this summer.

    Sir Albert

According to local news sources, the Port announced on Wednesday July 5, that post of Deputy Chairman, the position held by Willie Moss, was made ‘redundant’, effective July 1, 2006.

The BAHAMA JOURNAL said that the Port stated in a news release that its group of companies was in the process of making a number of major changes in its organizational structure.

Mrs. Moss joined GBPA as legal counsel in 1980. She was promoted to general counsel in 1982 and appointed Deputy Chairman in 1998. From March 2003 until March 2005, Mrs. Moss also held the position of president of Port Authority.

The termination of Mrs. Moss came two weeks after the Port announced that Executive Vice President Barry Malcolm had resigned after more than five years with the GBPA.

    Mrs. Moss

Mr. Malcolm’s resignation came shortly after that of former Chairman and CEO Julian Francis after only a year; the appointment of Hannes Babak as chairman; and, the return of Sir Albert as CEO.

    Mr. Malcolm

Those changes, according to the newspaper, have sparked widespread debate, especially in Grand Bahama, about the effect of the staff changes and the motives.

The Grand Bahama Port Authority’s corporate responsibilities include the management of Freeport, commercial and real estate development, licensing and regulatory functions, utilities operations and municipal services functions.
