2006

2006,
February 19: The CSA reaffirms its commitment to training development and to
work with other organizations for the benefit and development of members and the
people of the Caribbean.
In her 2006 message, published in the CSA
Newsletter: 2005 Year-In-Review issue, the CSA President, Corah Ann
Robertson-Sylvester invoked the CSA’s Mission Statement, saying: “we affirm our
commitment to the world to ‘promote and foster the highest quality service to
the maritime industry through training development; working with all agencies,
groups and other associations for the benefit and development of its members and
the peoples of the Caribbean region’”.
She said: “Our region is an important link in the
world’s transportation system and places us in a strategic area which we must
continue to develop for the growth and diversification of our businesses.
Our Association has had many successes in 2005 which placed us on the forefront
of the maritime industry of the world.
“We were faced with many exciting challenges in
2005. Many of our members experienced changes in their businesses as a result of
the various mergers and acquisitions that took place in the first quarter of the
year. I reiterate what I had said at our meeting in St. Vincent in May 2005,
that these acquisitions will affect all who provide service in our region - our
Ports, Agents, and Stevedores. However, we must not be daunted by these
changes, but instead, as true Caribbean people who are resilient, we will
restructure and reorganize."
Encouraging members to meet the challenges ahead
with confidence, she said: “Remember, there are three ways that one can respond
to change; either to lead it, adjust to it or reject it. As leaders, we will use
the challenges that change presents to us to make us become even more focused on
realizing our goals.”
