  • Caribbean Village at Seatrade Convention 2003

2003, February 27:  For the very first time, ten Caribbean cruise destinations will combine their trade show efforts and participate jointly in the exhibition under the banner of “The Caribbean Village” at the Seatrade Cruise Convention.

The Convention, the largest cruise event in the world, will be held at the Miami Beach Convention Center from March 3 to 7, 2003.

The ten Caribbean countries that have come together to form the Caribbean Village are: Antigua, Barbados, Belize, British Virgin Islands, Curacao, Grenada, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, St. Kitts, St. Lucia and Trinidad & Tobago.  Jointly, these destinations represent over 3.5 million passenger arrivals.

This historic Caribbean cruise effort  will start on Tuesday, March 4 at noon. The official opening will be performed by Michele Paige, President of the Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA) and one of the principal partners of the Caribbean Village.

According to Jan Sierhuis, VP Commercial Affairs of the Curacao Ports Authority and initiator of the Caribbean Village project: "‘After two years of preparation, the Caribbean is finally undertaking joint action to get its message across to the cruise and travel community. We are by far the largest cruise market in the world, but we are also one of the last to undertake joint efforts to promote our business more effectively."

"I expect that the village will rapidly grow and improve in the coming years. Everybody who feels part of the Caribbean cruise family is welcome. Our primary aim is to get a consistent and meaningful message across and win back the participation of the cruise executives, our primary target audience at Seatrade. Our goal is to greatly improve their trade show experience and create more effective business partnerships. For the future, we see the village venturing out into other exhibitions relevant to the cruise business.

"The Caribbean Village organizers sincerely thank the participating destinations, its sponsors and partners, trade show organizer CMP and FCCA for their support and recognizes The Brand Foundry and AT&T as its official sponsors."

The Caribbean Village will be located at booth # 493 in the Caribbean section of Seatrade Exhibition, just behind the FCCA booth.
