Heart and soul. Mother
of the CSA.
On you
go, on, to wherever your ship may take you.
Your cargo rich, filling everyone with joy. We, your children, are
left behind.
Oh yes, we
will find our way,
But only because
you taught us how.
And we shall never,
ever forget you.
May your
journey be a peaceful one.
Jan Sierhuis, Curaçao.

I knew Monica
for just over 20 years and during this period I had the pleasure, the
privilege and the good fortune to work closely with her particularly at
the level of the Caribbean Shipping Association. Monica was a forthright
and dependable individual with a most pleasant personality. She was a
conscientious worker, who undertook her responsibilities with diligence and
dedication which had always resulted in her high level of efficiency. No
task had ever been too great for her as her quiet and confident approach
could be expected in dealing with difficulties. I have lost a true friend
and the Regional Shipping Industry has lost one of its stalwarts.

On behalf of the Silver
Club Members at Barbados, it is with deep sadness and shock that we feel
having received the news of the passing of Monica Silvera. Monica has been
an encyclopaedia of the CSA and, consequently, everyone who came in
contact with her was captured by her knowledge and charm.
Monica always seemed to have the time to listen to you and offer
assistance. We all relied on Monica over the years with her ability to
organize and arrange our annual meetings. The Caribbean Shipping
Association has certainly lost a very dedicated and loyal person. On
behalf of the CSA Silver Club Members at Barbados, kindly extend our
deepest sympathy to her family and friends.

It was with shock and
profound sorrow, that I received the news this morning of Monica's
untimely passing. During my years as the Caribbean Community
Secretariat's representative at meetings of the CSA, I developed a
relationship of professional respect and love for Monica. She was
efficient and pleasant - a true Caribbean woman, comfortable with herself
and at home in any part of the Community. Her sudden passing
challenges us to live our lives to the fullest as she did. I had not
seen her since Valencia and it was a pleasure to meet her in Georgetown.
How could I know that the Thirst Park function would be our last brief
moments together? Her contributions at various levels to Caribbean
Shipping will be missed as will her presence at future CSA meetings.
Please convey my condolences to her family and to the membership of the
CSA and the Jamaica Shipping Association.
Andrea Watson-James,
Programme Manager, Organisational Development, Caribbean Community
Secretariat

after all "family is family". We will miss her friendship and business
camaraderie. The Shipping Asociation sends their deepest condolences
to the Family of Monica and also the CSA Family. Jennifer Gonzalez,

It is with
deep shock that Dawn, Rishi and myself find ourselves in this very
tragic moment. Dawn and Monica became very good friends even before I
became CSA President. She also had a special thing for Rishi. For me she
was my guiding light in this Association and in many other things I do.
Her big no problem man to every task will never be forgotten. I think we
must make the Martinique meeting in her memory. I wish to share these
thoughts and quotations
"Rings and
jewels are not gifts but apologies for gifts. the only true gift is a
portion of thyself"
It is said
we give of ourselves when we give gifts of the heart -- love, kindness,
joy, tolerance, sympathy,forgiveness
gifts of
the mind -- ideas, dreams, ideals, principles
gifts of
the spirit -- prayers, vision, peace, faith
gifts of
words --- encouragement, inspiration, guidance
Monica
gave us all. She gave to each and everyone of us a portion of herself. We
are deeply saddened by her passing.
Dawn, Rawle
and Rishi.

in life use the word "unique" but to myself and my colleagues at the
Caribbean Shipping Journal, Monica Silvera was truly unique.

I would like
to share with you and the members of the CSA my personal expression of
sorrow for the passing of Monica. I did not have the privilege of meeting
her; my husband Bob Miller did. Whenever Bob would return from a trip, he
always commented on how professional and 'in tune she was the business at
hand. Monica also took the time to share with me her condolences at
the passing on of Bob last December; she was truly an exceptional and
unselfish person. As I know the feelings of what must be
transcending throughout the Association and with her family, please extend
my deepest sympathies to all. I was just about to call and
arrange a trip to visit and meet her and members of the Association... now
I am greatly saddened with this loss. I will be in contact with you, or
feel free to contact me when business resumes and I'll will arrange a trip
to visit. Again, Mike and all members, Royal Marine is here to assist in
any way possible. Karen K. Miller, President Royal Marine
